Meet Liviya K., our newest #junkiecrush. This badass Manhattan-native has been a ((305)) junkie for three damn years. When she’s not dancing her ass off in class (which is often), Liviya crushes it in her day job as a TV producer.
HOW DID YOU GET HOOKED ON ((305))?
When I started ((305)) three years ago, there wasn't press about it everywhere and there wasn't a studio. There was just Sadie teaching out of a ballroom dance studio all by herself. I heard about the class through word of mouth.
I'm a former dancer, so I was intrigued because I loved the idea of the dance element. But I was pretttyyyyy out of shape and completely terrified. I worked up the courage to go for the first time during a period when I wasn't going to the gym. There was something about Sadie's shiny, bouncy, bubbly curls that made me decide to give it a try.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVE WORKOUT OUTFIT TO WEAR TO #MAKESWEATSEXY?
I'm a walking Lululemon ad from head to toe, almost. 99% of the time you'll find me in cropped leggings, double sports bra (no joke, gotta keep the girls in place with all that jumping!), and either a bright, bright top or my Make Sweat Sexy tank. Sadie's ((305)) style has also inspired me a lot, so now you can frequently find me with a plaid shirt tied around my waist! I'm also a sucker for Asics neon sneakers.
WHAT SONG MAKES YOU WANT TO GIVE IT YOUR ALL IN CLASS?
Recently I've been OBSESSED with "Confident" by Demi Lovato. Both that song and Demi herself have such an incredible message, it gives me that extra energy to not only do the moves, but perform the f*ck out of it. Same thing happens when Beyonce's "Grown Woman" comes on. Can't help myself when it comes to a little girl power!
EARLY BIRD OR NIGHT OWL FOR MAKING SWEAT SEXY?
On weekends, the 11 a.m. classes are my jam. I will NEVER miss one, unless I am literally out of state. Saturday at 11am specifically is essentially a holy time for me (don't tell my Jewish parents!). During the week, I love the evening classes, because I find this class to be the best way to wash away a stressful day and put my mind and body at ease before a good night's sleep.
IF YOU COULD BE A BACKUP DANCER TO ONE SUPER DIVA, WHO WOULD IT BE?
I have to go Britney. I grew up idolizing her, have spent the past 15 years obsessed with her, and I feel like I am personally invested in her career and the personal ups and downs that she's gone through. I spent my middle school years teaching myself all of her dances, and I love that she's back in killer dancing shape and just leaving it ALL on the stage doing her show in Vegas.
IN ADDITION TO SOME KILLER DANCE MOVES, WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM ((305))?
((305)) has taught me that I can do things that I never thought I was capable of doing. It has taught me that you can find a true, supportive community in the most unlikely of places. It has taught me that outer, physical strength always starts from strength within. It has taught me that some addictions can actually be good for you! It has taught me that having someone cheering in your corner makes all the difference in the world. It has taught me that every day life is so much better when you physically feel good and healthy.
It has taught me that no accomplishments are too minor. It has taught me that sweating my butt off is SEXY, but even more importantly, that there isn't one, right way to look and feel sexy. Confidence is sexy, feeling good about yourself is sexy, strength is sexy, and that comes in all forms shapes and sizes!
