Kiki-ing with The Material Girl

YAS, June is PRIDE month! It is the time when the community comes together to commemorate the Stonewall Riots and celebrate our LGBTQ brothers, sisters, and folks in between. We kiki'd with Matty of ((305)) NYC to get the tea behind all the glitter and rainbows.

Starting things off, what does "pride" mean to you?

Pride means freedom, love, and the freedom to love. ❤️

Amen! What was your "coming out" experience like?

I came out on November 9th, 2011 (Yes, I remember the date). I first came out to myself, then, over the next year, I came out to family and friends when it felt natural and not forced.

We hear ya! Do you have any advice for anyone going through the coming out process?

The only person holding you back is yourself.

Do you have any LGBTQ icons that you look up to and why?

Candis Cayne because she is such a legend! She is relentlessly herself and her compassion for others is inspiring. On top of that, she has the best high-kicks I've ever seen!

The only person holding you back is yourself.

Finally, what do you wish others knew more about the LGBTQ community?

The fight for equality is nowhere near over. Research, learn, and take action! Don't know where to start? Check out an organization that ((305)) supports: Lambda Legal.

Come on, circuit queens!

We know you love to dance. We know you love to sweat. We know you love to be sexy. And we KNOW you love to throw shade and spill the well-brewed tea. Sign up for 305 Pride and Rainbow 🌈 classes all month long.

P.S. Duh you can come if you don't identify as LGBTQ but you are a proud ally. As always, all are welcome.
