CIERRA: THE REGAL & READY
If you’re looking for a class that’ll make you feel feminine, powerful, and confident (aka full blown Beyonce status), look no further.
I’ll have what she’s having, thanks. It sounds cliche but Cierra is a gorgeous person, on the inside and out. Okay, yes, everything from her natural curls, to her bright smile to her #bodygoals makes us swoon. And on the inside, Cierra is one of the most warm, thoughtful, and caring people we have ever met.
If you’re looking for a class that’ll make you feel feminine, powerful, and confident (aka full blown Beyonce status), look no further. Cierra has got you covered.
Welcome to the ((305)) fam, Cierra! To kick things off, how do you want junkies to feel in your class?
Energized. Powerful. Strong.
Okurrrr! Now tell us, where can we find you when you’re not at ((305))?
Reading or writing! I spend my free time at the library or exploring different bookstores and I usually have at least two books in my bag.
Speaking of books, what kind of student were you like growing up?
I was the student that had perfect attendance every year! My love of learning and of school led me to my current full-time role as a Ph.D. student and researcher. My long-term goal is to be a professor, so basically I'll never leave school.
We all go through ups and downs. Have you ever failed?
I definitely fail at least once a day. I'm the type of person that's always in pursuit of new challenges, and with that comes failure. I believe that you can't achieve true growth without failure.
You’re a major #BOSS on and off the dance floor. Were you also like this growing up?
I used to sing and dance at home for my family members. I would make them sit around me in a circle and at the end of my performances, I would point at each person individually and say, "You clap! Now you clap! Now EVERYBODY clap!" Needless to say, some things never change.
Now for the juicy stuff! Single or taken?
Taken, by the male version of me.
Awwww #goals! Tell us more!
We both swiped right and then it was love at first sight! See what I did there
We've all got something that defines our identity -- what’s yours?
For me it's being a woman of color. In my work I study the educational experiences of Black girls, but more specifically how Black girls use arts-based practices, like movement and music, as forms of expression and resistance. Basically I study #blackgirlmagic. It was because of my experiences as a woman of color that I wanted to give student voice to research and tell the stories of Black girls through their own lens, rather than through a deficit-based approach.
Shiiiine kween! What have you learned about yourself in the past year?
I've learned that I'm more than capable when it comes to accomplishing my goals. I used to second guess myself and be unsure of who I was, but now I'm starting to realize that I'm here, I'm worthy, and I don't have to shy away from shining my light.
Yasss, love that! What’s your motto?
"My goal in life is not to merely survive, but to thrive, and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style."
Last one -- why do you love ((305))?
I love how ((305)) makes me feel as if I can conquer the world. After my first class I was so sore, but I woke up the next morning feeling strong and ready to tackle anything that life handed to me. I never sweat as much as I do in any other workout or fitness class like I do in ((305)). It makes me see my body as a vessel and a temple - something I should cherish and thank for doing hard work every day.
