The Dancing Dreamer
If you live in Boston, you probably recognize this stunning smile - Diana is one of those people who just radiates. Whether you catch her on or off the dance floor, she's always eager to help you be your most authentic self and to dream the biggest dreams you can.
Get to know this bubbly queen (and a major dose of inspo) below.
Let's start from the beginning. What's your story? Where did you grow up?
I was born in La Paz, Bolivia, but when I was seven I moved to Lima, Peru, where I spent the end of elementary and high school. At 18, I ventured out of Peru and ended up in Boston, without ever visiting. I had always wanted to come to the USA for school and somehow I ended up here. I lived in Boston for 5 years and then moved to China for a bit and then Switzerland. Now I’m back in Boston! I still don’t know how I deal with the cold!
Wow! That's quite a journey! So, what brought you to ((305))?
My mom was a fitness instructor and she started bringing me to her classes when I was 12. She had to tell the gym staff I was 16 so they would let me in. Instantly I was hooked on everything fitness. I was the junkie of all classes -taking 3 or 4 classes a day (I ended up dating my Spinning instructor). I knew that someday I wanted to be an instructor.
When I auditioned, I felt intimidated and was not sure if I would make the cut. I heard New York gets a line of people out the door auditioning, so I definitely didn’t think I would make it past the auditions. I had met Michelle at Equinox and one night after taking my class, she told me to give it a try! I had only ever taken one 305 class (Jess E’s first community class), which I thought was incredible and I honestly did not think I would be capable of doing what I am doing right now.
I always dreamed of being an instructor and to think I actually accomplished what I always dreamed of makes me so incredibly happy.
Sounds like your hard work paid off! Speaking of -- what's your favorite post-class snack?
A poke bowl from Poke Bento.
And what's your Zodiac sign?
I’m a Pisces and I absolutely fit the stereotype.
Vacation mode on
Our girl Diana on a recent vaca to Nicaragua.
Ahh, I see that for you. Pisces are really gentle and artistic. Do you have a personal mantra?
People that take my classes know that I always ask one question: Are you ready, yes or yes?
And if people don’t respond with a loud “yes” I won’t start class until they do. I like helping people realize that their bodies are capable of doing more than they could possibly ever imagine.
Love that attitude! Sometimes we all need a little extra push. Who does that for you?
The ((305)) community. Everyone is very supportive and we help each other out. When someone is sick or can’t teach, I have always had others back me up. When I don’t feel comfortable with a dance move or choreo, I know I can lean on any of the instructors to help me figure it out. We are a family and we definitely have developed incredible friendships.
Our community is pretty dope for sure. Is there a specific song that can always put you in an equally good mood?
Ok that's definitely a BOP. Last question (and maybe the *most* important)... what did you think of #BEYCHELLA?
I think she is the symbol of a creative renaissance.
READY FOR MORE DIANA?
Us too, boo! Get your a$$ to class and sign up for some fun with this diva.
